Automotive Shop
The University Automotive Center strives to provide safe and effective transportation for the faculty, staff, and students of the University of Georgia. Proper servicing of University vehicles is key to maintaining safe and reliable vehicles. The full service shop has factory-trained mechanics, a car wash and fuel depot.
The Automotive Shop is equipped to perform repairs and maintenance as needed. The shop complex has the following facilities at its disposal:
- 9 small vehicle bays for cars and pickups with 7 lifts
- 3 truck bays with 2 lifts
- 1 body shop bay
- 1 large truck wash bay
- 1 detached 2 bay car wash, with mechanical room
- 1 Parts room
- 1 detached 6 bay storage shed
Fuel Depot
The Fuel Depot provides gasoline, diesel, oil, air, water, light repairs (bulb and wipers replacement etc.), and performs first echelon maintenance. In addition, the fuel depot dispatches rental vehicles and runs the carwash facility. Hours of operation for the fuel depot are 7:00AM to 11:00PM, Monday thru Friday.
The fuel depot has:
- 8 gasoline dispensers, with 10,000 gallon in ground storage tank
- 3 diesel dispensers with 5000 gallon storage tank
Both tanks have double wall plumbing, vapor recovery capable, Veeter-Root monitors.
Preventive Maintenance (PM) Program
The vehicle Preventive Maintenance Program is based on both Vehicle mileage and time in service (see chart below). This data is considered when scheduling PM service. The PM program is designed to ensure that our rental and assigned vehicles are safe and ready to use when needed. We strive to address vehicle concerns and remedy any problems you bring to our attention promptly and efficiently. Hours of operation for the maintenance shop are 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday.

For vehicles assigned to departments, letters are sent to notify designated caretakers that service is due. In addition, past due notices are sent out as a courtesy reminder.
Contact Fleet Manager for instructions for vehicles under university control, but not located in and around the Athens area.
The VTM Shop maintains PM records on each vehicle until it is taken out of service, deleted or designated as surplus.
